5 Amazing Switch Games You Should Definitely Play in 2024

    Published on:

In the year that’s being described as the Nintendo Switch’s last hurrah, we have seen a lot of new Switch games pop up. Some of them we’re good, and some amazing. The question is, how do they fare against the all time fan favorites?

We want to do something different this time around. Instead of counting games from this year alone, we want to recap the most liked games of all time. In no particular order, here are the top 5 games you should play on the Nintendo Switch.

    1. The Legend of Zelda: BOTW / TOK

You knew this was going to be on the list. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom have been consistently rated in the top 5 multiple times over the years and for good reason. It’s a fun open world experience that doesn’t pressure you into doing the main storyline in a specific order. It also doesn’t lock you out of specific events with prerequisite trials.

Unfortunately, its greatest strength is also its greatest weakness. BOTW and TOK don’t hold your hand so starting out can be a little daunting when you don’t know where to go. While this confusion does go away the more you play the game, it doesn’t change the fact that players new to the franchise can get lost easily.

If you can find either game at a discount, I can 100% recommend getting them. Preferably play Breath of the Wild before Tears of the Kingdom.

    2. Hades

If you’re a fan of roguelikes or want to get into the genre, Hades is hands down the best roguelike on the market. It’s got amazing art, a riveting storyline, and awesome gameplay. It has one of the best mechanics in gaming that I have ever played and it’s got a ton of replayability. I oftentimes find myself reaching for Hades over other triple A titles when looking for a game to take with me on the go or for casual gaming sessions at home.

Hades is available on different platforms but I personally think it feels the most at home on the Switch. The controls are easy to pickup and the animations and graphics look great on the native resolution of the Switch. If it isn’t in your collection already, I recommend getting it. It’s honestly all I ever play on the Switch when I’m pressed for time.

With Hades 2 coming out soon, Hades is genuinely a must have for your library. It’s one of the games that never gets boring the more you play it.

    3. Unicorn Overlord

Unicorn Overlord is the top-rated Switch game of 2024 and it shows. It blends the aesthetics of Fire Emblem and Bravely Default with the fun turn-based strategy of other popular Tactical RPGs. If you want a fun and immersive game with stunning visuals and absolutely gorgeous music, this is the game for you.

The game is honestly one of the better Tactical RPGs out there. It’s got a clear and easy system, intuitive mechanics, and a captivating storyline. I enjoyed playing Unicorn Overlord and despite my initial feelings about the title, it only just adds to the charm of the game.

Again, it’s one of the better games to be played on the Switch. Especially if you have an OLED. It’s got great visuals straight out of a storybook and blends 2D elements with 3D animations. An absolute must have for your Switch games library.

    4. Celeste

This one is for the platformer fans out there. Celeste is an adorable platform game with retro visuals and challenging gameplay. Rarely do I find a modern game that is difficult without being frustrating. Dying in Celeste is as common as dying in Hades but the quick respawns balance it out. There are moment’s in the game where I find myself having to lock in just to clear a platform and I honestly love these kinds of games.

It’s a charming game with quick and fun gameplay all wrapped up with cute and magical visuals and an intriguing story. I found myself falling in love with the characters and the world Madeline inhabits. It’s challenging and fun and by no means an easy platformer. With the difficulty, every level completion is a huge reward.

    5. Monster Hunter: Rise

Arguably one of the games that kept the Switch alive last year. The Switch had other MH titles available before Rise but none quite like it. It implemented an improved version of the open world maps we first saw in MH: World and added in a layer of verticality with the “Wirebug” mechanic.

The multiplayer aspect of Monster Hunter Rise is another significant draw, allowing players to team up with friends locally or online for cooperative monster hunting. The vibrant and immersive world of Kamura Village, with its rich lore and culture, enhances the overall experience. Whether you’re a seasoned hunter or new to the series, Monster Hunter Rise’s versatile play styles and challenging yet rewarding progression system make it a must-play.

These are our picks for Must-play games this year/of all time. I know there are some games not on this list that absolutely should have been on here but I tried to not include too many games of the same genre. We might do another list in the future but with more games so stay tuned for that!
