5 Amazing Storylines From Flesh and Blood TCG’s Pro Tour Amsterdam

    Published on:

Pro Tour Amsterdam will likely be remembered as one of the most unique in the game’s history because of its results and storylines that happened throughout the weekend. A prominent theme of PT Amsterdam was defying expectations. The event showcased numerous instances of players and their Heroes triumphing over unfavorable matchups through their skills and emerging victorious – here are our favorites!

A Chane Deck Won The Gold Foil Commoner Event With A Perfect 8-0 Record

Kevin Lerens took the Shadow Runeblade to a perfect run in a format generally ruled by Ira, Iyslander, Dash, and Oldhim. His Chane deck is surprisingly adaptable, too, as he can side in more offensive or defensive cards depending on the matchup. This mostly came as a surprise because the Commoner format is thought to mostly be solved, but Kevin proved that there is still room for innovation in FaB’s most accessible format.

Kano Went Through A Nearly Unwinnable Matchup To Win The Living Legend Battle Hardened

The Kano vs Prism matchup is generally considered one of the most unfavorable for the Wizard, so it’s sometimes regarded as unwinnable. Still, Alexander Vore was able to pilot his deck to perfection and get past his biggest roadblock on the way to the Battle Hardened win. In a format that’s widely believed to be dominated by Heroes that have reached already Living Legend status (hence the format name), Kano (and Zen in 2nd place, played by Nova Chan) proved that you don’t need to graduate to compete in FaB’s most powerful format.

Zen Proves That He’s Still The Best Deck Despite The Recent Nerfs

Former US Nationals Champion Charles Dunn won the Calling tournament using the popular (but recently nerfed) Mystic Ninja by going through two of his worst matchups – the defensive powerhouse that is Victor and Nuu, the deck that’s created to counter Zen. The Calling is arguably a harder test for Zen’s competitive viability compared to Pro Tour Amsterdam, as the player has to go through 13 rounds of strictly Classic Constructed play, and Charles was able to navigate his way during the Swiss rounds and ended at a comfortable 11-2 record to secure his place at the Top 8.

One Team Was Able To Put TWO Of Its Members In Top 8 Of The Pro Tour

Team Blue Pitch from Hong Kong achieved a remarkable feat by not just getting one but two of their members – Pudding Tam and Shing Tsang – into the Top 8 of Pro Tour Amsterdam. Such an accomplishment is truly commendable and reflects the skill and dedication of the team. It has been debated before if Team Blue Pitch does have the accolades to be considered one of the best teams in FaB, and this would surely shut down any doubters regarding their skill level.

Uzuri Emerges As The True Predator Of The Metagame

Finally, the biggest news of them all – Shoma Yamamura from Japan won Pro Tour Amsterdam on the back of a Hero, which nobody expected. She turned out to be the perfect choice for the metagame right now that’s dominated by Nuu and Zen, and Shoma masterfully showed how to surgically break down each opposing deck on his path to the Pro Tour win. This sets up such a great narrative leading into the World Championships at Osaka, where Shoma (and surely a lot of Japanese players) would want to go for the streak and claim two of this year’s three biggest FaB events for their country. What a way to end the Mistveil season if that were to happen!

Can’t wait for the World Championship? How about going to Calling: Manila first and experiencing one of the biggest FaB communities in Southeast Asia?
