As we approach the final days before the inaugural Calling tournament for Flesh and Blood TCG in Manila, it’s essential to ensure that everyone is fully prepared for the upcoming weekend. While we make sure to have our decks and tradeables ready, it’s worth taking a moment to double-check and see if there are any other necessary items we should bring to Calling: Manila, such as:
Printed Decklists
While decklist forms are available on-site, it’s not ideal to spend your precious initial moments sitting and filling out paperwork at the venue. There are plenty of things to explore and more productive ways to spend your time rather than dedicating 10 minutes to writing your decklist just because you couldn’t spare 2 minutes to print it beforehand. Even if you’re unsure of what deck to use on the day itself, printing decklists for all of them is still far better than the wasted time.
Play Some Practice Games Under A Competitive Rules Enforcement Level (REL)
When playing at Armories or playtesting with friends, it’s common for players to allow take-backsies, especially for missed triggers or play sequences. However, at main tournaments, judges and opponents are much stricter about these things. In a competitive environment, it’s expected that players are deliberate with their plays. If you’re unsure about a play, take a moment to think it through, but don’t take too long or risk being accused of slow play. Additionally, don’t hesitate to call a judge if you’re uncertain about an interaction or if your opponent is taking too much time to decide on their actions.
Don’t Forget Your Pen and Paper
While digital life counters may be permitted at the tournament, in the event of any disputes, life totals recorded with pen and paper are considered more reliable as a basis for resolving any arguments.
Sleeve Up!
To avoid possible Judge calls due to sleeve problems, it’s simply best to get one if you can afford to. Otherwise, a simple go-over of your current deck sleeves to check if there are any damaged or bent edges will save you from possible headaches during the middle of the tournament.
Bring Markers
Remember to pack a silver or gold marker when attending the event, as you might come across renowned players, celebrities, or individuals you’d like to get autographs from. It’s also a good idea to carry one in case someone asks for your signature. Silver and gold markers are ideal as they create a more striking impression on a card than the traditional black marker.
Cash
In today’s digital world, online and card transactions are prevalent. However, cash remains unrivaled when it comes to convenience and speed during transactions with various vendors and participants at an event. It’s important to note that carrying excessive amounts of cash can pose a security risk.
Your Own Water And Snacks
While Calling: Manila is happening at a mall event; bringing your own water bottle and a few snacks is recommended. This way, you can easily access food and drinks without worrying about finding time to purchase them between rounds. Additionally, sharing snacks can be a great way to bond and make new friends during the event.
Good luck, and see you at Calling: Manila! You can register HERE.
