Kyle’s back to do us all a favor and tell us why we shouldn’t miss Transformers One (which, in all honesty, we should really be watching).
Transformers One has been out for a few weeks, and fans have absolutely loved it! If you haven’t watched it yet, we highly suggest you find your way to the nearest theatre before it’s gone (It’s a lot more fun in 3D/4D, by the way). While some fans may have had apprehensions regarding the direction the movie was shown to be taking in the trailer, many of those qualms were thrown out the window once the film was released. Both critics and audiences agree that this movie is one of the best in the franchise (Rotten Tomatoes gave it an 89% rating and a 98% Audience score), and we want to tell you why.

The Transformers franchise has had multiple retellings, incarnations, and adaptations across different forms of media. We’ve had movies, numerous TV shows, and even comics! While we’ve had many live-action movies and animated series, it’s been 37 years since the original animated film. The Transformers: The Movie came out in 1986 and has remained a fan-favorite in the community. It tackled many mature themes at the time, like war and sacrifice, but stayed true to the values of the Transformers franchise.
Today, Transformers One stands as a tribute to the original franchise fans and a potential entry point for newcomers. While the live-action movies by Michael Bay have their charm, there’s a distinct allure to an animated Transformers movie. Transformers One takes a bold step by revisiting the original origin story of the Transformers and their homeworld of Cybertron, narrated from the perspective of the future leaders of the Autobots and Decepticons. Fans were curious if the movie would stay true to the original cartoon, but it was clear from the start that this was a unique and fresh take on the story.
We want to avoid spoiling the story to investigate why this movie deserves to be watched. Like its predecessor, it manages to tackle themes that more mature fans can appreciate without sacrificing any of the humor and enjoyment associated with Transformers. Sure, it’s a kid’s movie, but even we, as grown adults, couldn’t help but feel immersed in the world the film builds and the characters introduced. The movie portrays age-old characters in a new light and shows us that when it comes to their story, there’s more than meets the eye. Transformers One thrives in the fact that while it’s supposedly a retelling, it’s also its own thing and stands out from the numerous adaptations by giving us a story and plot that has you hooked from the beginning.
Whether you’re a long-time fan or a newcomer exploring this classic franchise, Transformers One is sure to exceed your expectations. It’s a delightful surprise, and we could go on and on about its brilliance, but at the end of the day, it’s a movie that must be experienced to truly appreciate its magic.
