The Electric State is an exciting new sci-fi film from the acclaimed directors of Avengers: Endgame, Anthony and Joe Russo. Set in an alternate version of the 1990s, the film follows Michelle, an orphaned teenager portrayed by Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, on an epic journey across a strange, retro-futuristic landscape.
The story unfolds in a world where sentient robots, once integrated into society, now live in exile following a failed rebellion. These robots, resembling whimsical mascots and cartoons, add a nostalgic yet eerie vibe to the story. Michelle’s world is turned upside down when she is visited by Cosmo, a mysterious robot who seems to be controlled by her younger brother Christopher, who she believes to be dead. Determined to reunite with him, Michelle embarks on a perilous adventure through the American Southwest.
Along the way, she teams up with Keats, played by Chris Pratt, a smuggler with a wisecracking robot sidekick voiced by Anthony Mackie. Together, they enter the Exclusion Zone, a walled-off desert area where robots have created their own society. As they encounter a colorful array of animatronic allies, they begin to uncover the sinister forces behind Christopher’s disappearance.
The star-studded cast includes Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Giancarlo Esposito, Stanley Tucci, and Woody Norman, with voice talents from Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Alan Tudyk, and Woody Harrelson. Based on Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel, The Electric State blends nostalgia, adventure, and a thought-provoking exploration of humanity’s relationship with technology. With a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, this film promises to be a visually stunning and emotionally charged ride.
The Electric State premieres on Netflix on March 14, 2025, and you can have a first look at its trailer HERE.
