The YGG Play Summit 2024 Press Conference: A Sneak Peek At The Future Of Web3 Gaming And Beyond

    Published on:

The Yield Guild Games (YGG) Play Summit 2024 press conference, held on October 23, 2024, at the Manila House Private Club in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), provided an exciting preview of the upcoming YGG Play Summit (YPS) scheduled for November 19-23, 2024. This event will be a grand celebration of everything web3, with a particular focus on gaming, where YGG has emerged as a key player by empowering guilds across various web3 games to develop and nurture their online identities.

Leah Callon-Butler, the Director of Emfarsis, leads the press conference program.

At the press conference, prominent web3 Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and industry experts spoke on a range of topics through a series of panel discussions, offering valuable insights into the ever-evolving landscape of web3 gaming.

Mench Dizon, the Philippine Country Head for YGG, gives her opening remarks.

One of the key discussions was “Reimagining Strategy Games With Web3: Chess and TCGs In The Decentralized Future,” featuring Brian Chan of Anichess and Carlo Ople of Unbox, with moderation by Jayvee Fernandez of Philstar and Multiverse.ph.

Brian Chan shared his vision for Anichess, a chess-based game that incorporates a Spell system to add another dimension to traditional chess gameplay. Chan highlighted how web3 technology enables continuous evolution while allowing users to retain ownership of key data, including match records and in-game assets. Carlo Ople, a well-known figure in the trading card game (TCG) community, discussed his experience with TCGs and how the web3 space offers a unique opportunity for community building. Ople emphasized the potential of web3 to add a new layer to the hobby, not only through community interaction but also as a platform for trading valuable assets and enhancing in-game mechanics, as seen in projects like Parallel TCG.

Another key session, “Play, Learn, and Work: How Web3 Games Create Learning and Earning Opportunities for Filipinos,” featured Beryl Li of YGG and Wei Zhou of Coins.ph, moderated by Nathan Marasigan of MLaw. Beryl Li discussed how YGG utilizes task-based quests to grow and reward communities within their platform. These tasks, in turn, help foster engagement and growth within the YGG ecosystem. Wei Zhou expanded on this idea, explaining how web3 platforms open up earning opportunities not only through gaming but also by allowing users to perform essential tasks like real-time street mapping.

One of the press conference’s most anticipated moments was the unveiling of the trailer for “Metaverse Filipino Worker” (MFW). This concept represents both a term and a movement that aims to provide Filipinos with opportunities to earn and thrive from the comfort of their homes, negating the need to seek work abroad. Through web3 technology, Filipino workers can engage in meaningful employment that rivals overseas work opportunities without the need to leave the Philippines.

The final panel of the day, “Metaverse Filipino Worker: A Preview of the Upcoming Short Film,” featured Edgar “Artek606” Sinio of L!ne Outs!de and “Spraky” of Axie University (AxU), with Leah Callon-Butler of Emfarsis moderating. Both speakers shared their personal journeys within the web3 space, describing how their dedication to this emerging technology led them to successful positions within the industry.

The event concluded with an open invitation to the YGG Play Summit in November, where attendees can immerse themselves in web3 gaming, business, and community-building opportunities firsthand. With the momentum building around YPS 2024, it promises to be a pivotal event for anyone interested in the future of web3 gaming and its broader implications for work and play in the digital world.
