If you’re a fan of Arcane and want to get into the lore, you’ll be happy to know there’s more to the universe than just the main game. Riot Games has been busy expanding the lore and gameplay with a variety of spin-offs and related titles. Here’s a rundown of five League of Legends games released from 2021 onwards. They are in no specific order but are all definitely worth a look. Arcane may be over, but the richness of Runterra’s lore lives on in these games.
1. Ruined King: A League of Legends Story (2021)
“Ruined King” is a turn-based role-playing game developed by Airship Syndicate and published by Riot Forge. The game dives deep into the lore of Runeterra, focusing on the characters from Bilgewater and the Shadow Isles. You get to control a party of champions, including Miss Fortune, Illaoi, Braum, Pyke, Ahri, and Yasuo, as they navigate through dangerous seas and unravel the mysteries surrounding the Black Mist.
The game’s engaging story and strategic combat make it a must-play for both hardcore fans and newcomers to the League universe. If you’re a fan of turn-based combat, this one should be first on your list!
2. Legends of Runeterra (2020)
A digital collectible card game set in the League of Legends universe, “Legends of Runeterra” combines the strategy of card games with the rich lore of Runeterra. Developed by Riot Games, this game allows players to build decks using champions and spells from various regions of Runeterra.
The unique gameplay and interactions make it different enough from other digital TCGs but remains simple enough to pick up. I personally played it on release and I enjoy finding out a little more about the lore with new cards. It’s a great way to dive deeper into the world and test your tactical skills, offering a unique and immersive experience for both seasoned players and new fans alike.
3. The Mageseeker: A League of Legends Story (2023)
For the fans of retro games and like that aesthetic, this is your game. This gritty 2D hi-bit pixel action RPG follows Sylas, the rogue mage, as he seeks vengeance against Demacia. Developed by Digital Sun, the creators of Moonlighter, “The Mageseeker” offers a fresh take on the League universe with its unique art style and dynamic gameplay.
Players wield Sylas’s chains to steal magic from enemies and use it against them, creating explosive combat scenarios. The game’s deep narrative and challenging mechanics make it a standout title in the League of Legends franchise. Discover the darkness behind Demacia’s shadows and why magic is banned in the kingdom.
4. Song of Nunu: A League of Legends Story (2023)
Developed by Tequila Works, “Song of Nunu” is a heartwarming single-player adventure that follows the journey of Nunu and his yeti friend, Willump. Set in the frosty lands of the Freljord, this game captures the essence of friendship and exploration as Nunu searches for his long-lost mother. The game features beautiful landscapes, emotional storytelling, and puzzles that make use of Nunu and Willump’s unique abilities. It’s a perfect game for those who love narrative-driven experiences and want to dive deeper into the League of Legends lore.
5. Convergence: A League of Legends Story (2023)
If you loved every Ekko moment in Arcane, I highly suggest picking up Convergence. This game is an action-platformer developed by Double Stallion Games. This game focuses on Ekko, the boy who shattered time, as he navigates the streets of Zaun. Players will utilize Ekko’s time-manipulating abilities to explore the city and tackle various challenges. The game’s vibrant art style, fast-paced gameplay, and deep connection to the League of Legends lore make it an exciting addition to the franchise.
Do note that these games came out before Arcane so there might be some discrepancies. That doesn’t stop any of them from being fun and amazing. My personal favorites are Convergence and Ruined King so I’d definitely suggest those first!
These games offer a variety of experiences, from rhythm runners and RPGs to adventure and platformers. Whether you’re a hardcore League of Legends player or just looking to explore the universe, there’s something for everyone in these recent releases. So dive in and enjoy the rich world of Runeterra!
