Monster Hunter Wilds is releasing in three weeks and we’re hyped to play it. Last week, we talked about how this game is shaping up to be one of the best titles in the franchise. Now, we’re going to share what we’re most excited about and everything you need to know about the new game. These are the top new additions to the Monster Hunter franchise that we’re looking forward to..
New Monsters
Obviously, the best part about every new Monster Hunter game are the new monsters! Monster Hunter Wilds introduces a slew of new monsters that bring more challenges and excitement to the game. The poster monster for this game is Arkveld. It stands out from the bunch with its massive chain-like wings and just overall badass design.
Other new monsters include the likes of Rey Dau, The Black Flame, a fire-breathing monster with insane agility, Balahara, known for its poisonous attacks, and Doshaguma, a bearlike monster that can summon minions and reminds me too much of a Chow Chow that bit me in the past. Each monster comes with unique behaviors and attack patterns. Meaning more patterns to memorize and create schemas for and adapt your strategies and gear accordingly.
Hook Slinger
Whoever said mobility was lower this game definitely hasn’t heard of this. The Hook Slinger makes a return in Wilds. It’s a revolutionary tool that first appeared in Worlds and it enhances mobility and interaction with the environtment.
It functions similarly to a grappling hook but with more usage. It now allows hunters to pick up items from a distance while mounted, destroy boulders blocking paths, and reach high places previously inaccessible. During hunts, the Hook Slinger enables players to perform aerial maneuvers, dodge attacks, and create opportunities for counterattacks. It’s no wirebug but it’ll have to do.
Seikret Mount
Yes, you can ride a dinosaur bird. It’s not as cute as the Palamute in Monster Hunter Rise, but it’s just as cool! The Seikret Mount is a loyal companion that provides fast travel across the game’s expansive maps. It enhances mobility and assists in combat.
Unlike in Rise, you can actually fight and shoot while mounted! Hunters can also ride the Seikret to quickly reach a monster’s location, escape dangerous situations, or chase down fleeing prey. I’m personally happy they gave us a mount in this game since it’s an open world (more on that later).
Dynamic Environments
This is one of the cooler aspects that they added in Monster Hunter. Monster Hunter Wilds features dynamic environments that are ever-changing and unpredictable. Rapid weather changes such as sandstorms, lightning storms, and heavy rains can drastically alter the landscape and affect hunting strategies.
These environmental changes adds to the difficulty of hunts, as hunters must adapt to new conditions and use the environment to their advantage. For example, a lightning storm might make certain monsters more aggressive, while a sandstorm can obscure vision and make tracking difficult.
Wound System
Combat has significantly improved in Monster Hunter Wilds. The Wound System is a new mechanic that adds depth to combat in the game. When hunters successfully target and damage specific parts of a monster, those areas become wounded. Similarly to breaking parts on a monsters, you get more bonuses when you successfully wound them.
On top of getting bonus rewards, attacking these wounds deals increased damage. This system encourages players to focus on weak points and strategize their attacks. It rewards precision and teamwork, as hunters can coordinate their efforts to exploit a monster’s vulnerabilities and bring it down more efficiently.
Focus Mode
Focus Mode is a new feature that highlights a monster’s weak points with a red glow, allowing hunters to easily identify and target these areas. Activating Focus Mode consumes stamina, so players must use it wisely during hunts.
On top of improved damage, you also get a different set of moves. Different weapons have different focus attacks. This mechanic adds a tactical element to combat, as hunters can choose when to activate Focus Mode to maximize their damage output and improve their chances of success.
Detailed Character Creator
The character creation system in Monster Hunter Wilds has been significantly improved, offering more customization options than ever before. Players can fine-tune their hunter’s appearance with detailed sliders for facial features, hair length, muscularity, and more.
Additionally, the game offers a wide range of clothing, armor, and accessories to create a unique look for each hunter. The enhanced character creator also extends to Palicos, allowing players to design their feline companions with the same level of detail and personalization.
Solo Hunting with NPC Companions
For players who prefer to hunt solo, Monster Hunter Wilds brings back NPC companions that can join them on their quests. These companions provide support in combat, gathering resources, and tracking monsters.
Unlike previous games, the NPC companions in Monster Hunter Wilds are fully customizable, allowing players to choose their abilities, gear, and appearance. This feature enhances the solo hunting experience by providing reliable backup and making solo quests more manageable and enjoyable.
Massive 100 Player Lobbies
“Monster Hunter Wilds” supports massive multiplayer lobbies with up to 100 players. These large lobbies facilitate social interaction, cooperative play, and event organization. Players can form hunting parties, join guilds, and participate in large-scale hunts and events. The 100-player lobbies also create a vibrant online community where hunters can share tips, trade items, and collaborate on challenging quests.
Incredibly Seamless Level Transitions
Like we mentioned earlier, the game is now open worlds! The game features seamless level transitions between different areas, eliminating loading screens and enhancing the overall flow of exploration and hunting. This seamless experience allows hunters to move freely between regions, track monsters across vast landscapes, and immerse themselves in the game world without interruptions. The transition between biomes is smooth and natural, creating a cohesive and immersive environment for players to explore.
These are just some of the new mechanics being introduced. We’ve only had the chance to play the beta so we’re excited to see what other changes there are when the game launches.
