The Deeper Reason Behind Muzan’s Search For Nezuko

    Published on:

Despite Episode 6 being mostly an epic training montage for Tanjiro and the gang, it’s not without its share of excitement as we get more updates on the demons’ search for Nezuko. Episode 6 drops some big reveals that remind us of some of the series’ big questions and hint at the thrilling developments to come.

The Search For Nezuko – Where’s Muzan in All This?

Muzan Kibutsuji, the big bad of the series, finally appears this season, confirming his presence at the mysterious, winding castle discovered by Obanai and Sanemi in episode 1. Equally significant is the revelation of the powers of the Upper Demon 4, Nakime. Her abilities, primarily for surveillance, allow her to locate around 60% of the Demon Slayers, effectively serving as Muzan’s personal Google Maps.

Whether she has combat skills has yet to be seen, as Muzan stopped bothering about their ranks and what it meant long ago, but regardless, her power is potent and plays a vital role in the fight against the Demon Slayer Corps.

    And speaking of Muzan…

The Search For Nezuko – Muzan’s Progress So Far

Now’s a good time to review Muzan’s goals and progress in getting them. First, he wants to live forever – that’s kind of accomplished in a way already when he transformed into the strongest demon in existence. Second, is that he wants to live without any fear… which is kind of a bummer since two everyday things can get in his way: the Sun, which will cause him to disintegrate and is always present half of the day, and really Good Demon Slayers like Yoriichi who really put the fear in him after he learned that Nichirin swords could turn red and just like the sun, burn through his regenerative abilities.

Now, he has some options to counter this. First, he can just be content to live in the shadows and blend in with the world. However, it’s not something that his ego would allow, for he sees himself as a higher being, and if there’s anyone who should be hiding, it’s the humans, not him.

Second is getting his hands on a Blue Spider Lily, which only blooms for a couple of days in broad daylight, so good luck to him getting his hands on one, much less knowing where it’s located.

His final solution to his daylight problem is to eventually create a demon that, through some circumstances, can withstand the sun without turning to ash. He can then absorb that demon and gain the same immunity. That demon finally arrived in the form of Nezuko.

The only pickle to this plan is that Ubuyashiki and the Demon Slayer Corps now have custody of Nezuko and have hidden her well, so Muzan spends all day in the castle browsing his personal navigation demon to find out where she is. Alternatively, he is also looking for the Demon Slayer HQ and Ubuyashiki himself so he can force him to reveal Nezuko’s whereabouts.

The Search For Nezuko – The Deeper Meaning Behind It

    Search for Nezuko

For Muzan, the stars finally aligned and gave him the key to his lifelong goal – living forever without fear of anything or anyone as an absolute being. This is so important because, at his core, Muzan is actually quite cowardly despite all his power – he still can’t get over the traumatic memory of desperately escaping and nearly dying to Yoriichi, so he wants a solution to all possible threats to his existence.

So far, the search has proved fruitless, which is excellent as it is buying Tanjiro, the Hashiras, and the rest of the Demon Slayer Corps the time to get stronger. However, all hell will surely break loose if he ever finds one of those two things and pays a them visit – it’s gonna be quite an explosive episode for sure.
