Black Ops 6: Exciting Installment or Killer Cash Grab?

    Published on:

What? After all our posts, did you think we weren’t going to review the game? Well I did and I can just say: We are so back! Black Ops 6 had a lot of expectations riding on it and boy, did it deliver! There’s a lot I want to talk about in this review but we’re going to keep things neat and concise. If you want to experience the game for yourself, I highly recommend picking up the base version of the game. Let’s get on to the review.

    Multiplayer

Right off the bat, I want to get the weakest aspect of the game out of the way. Call of Duty has and always will be one of the premiere multiplayer shooting games and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is no different. Don’t get me wrong, the multiplayer aspect of this game is well worth the AAA title but it’s not one of the best Call of Duty multiplayer experiences out there. I really enjoyed some of the game modes like Gunfight and Domination but found myself struggling in some games on certain maps.

I want to preface this by saying I am by no means a competitive player. My idea of enjoying Call of Duty is to let off some steam or spend time with friends. However, even I felt that some of the maps in this game were just straight up unfun to play on. I did not enjoy playing on Redcard simply because it was slightly fatiguing to get used to. From a design standpoint, it was breathtakingly intricate and well-designed. From a gameplay standpoint, it was utterly confusing to play in and was way too big for any real high-octane action.

Other than spawn problems and some maps being straight-up unfun for some people, multiplayer is incredibly fun in certain game modes and when you’re playing with friends. Personally, I can see solo mode being more for the more competitive and grindy players out there, and that’s totally fine! It may just be a personal thing but I felt that Multiplayer is really more for the sweatier of players.

    Zombies

I will be honest and say I don’t play Zombies nearly enough; however, that changed in Black Ops 6. Despite only having two main areas, Liberty Falls and Terminus, there were enough areas and moments in the game that kept things exciting for me. I especially enjoyed Terminus more simply because I loved the aesthetics and the missions for me were just overall more exciting. If you love Cold War Zombies mode, Black Ops 6 feels like a straight upgrade. If I had one gripe, it would be the amount of mini-bosses the game has the longer you play. It felt like in an attempt to make the game challenging, all they did was throw more boss units at the player.

    Campaign

I loved the Black Ops 6 campaign from start to finish. It felt like I was playing a blockbuster film complete with guns, explosions, and high-octane chases. While the main base of operations didn’t feel expansive, the variety of missions and gameplay moments more than made up for it. I love the fact that the missions are not all about shooting the bad guys or blowing something up. The campaign had a good mix of stealth operations and loud gunfights. Something you would absolutely expect from a Black Ops game.

The story this time around was downright captivating. I don’t want to spoil too much so I’m going to be very general with my comments. The campaign overall was well crafted, and it had just enough easter eggs and callbacks to link it to the previous Black Ops games. I especially enjoyed the action sequences in the missions, but I did feel that there were moments in the campaign that felt too much like a filler mission rather than actually impactful. Overall, I think that if you’re not getting the game for the Multiplayer mode, the campaign is well worth the disk space and cost of the game.

    Other Thoughts

There are so many more aspects to the game that I could talk about but I’ll be brief. I think my most favorite innovation in the game is Omnimovement. It just made the game feel so much more fluid and immersive. It gave me a ton of options in the middle of a firefight, and I think it was a genuinely smart inclusion in the game. Another smart feature that I appreciate is the loadouts and perks. I felt that the loadout system this time around was straightforward and was honestly rather simple to pick up. My main gripe is that if you aren’t fully utilizing your perks, it can feel incredibly lacking in-game. Other than that, it’s a well-designed aspect.

Grinding for rewards in this game can feel tedious at times, but honestly, it’s worth it. I love the camos and skins this time around and the return of classic prestige is a win in my book.

All in all, I think the game is great and is genuinely one of the best Call of Duty Black Ops games we’ve had in a while! Don’t take my word for it. Pick up the base game and try it out for yourself!
