If you love playing games with your friends and chilling with coffee and good food, we’ve got the cafe for you. The VRSUS team took a trip to Kachi Cafe and Collectibles, and we have nothing but praise for your one-stop shop that takes chill to the next level. We sat down with Edric, one of the owners, and learned more about what makes Kachi the place to be. Free wifi, big tables, ambient lighting, food, drinks, Kachi is a hidden oasis in San Juan for gamers and foodies!
Gamer’s Sanctuary
“We wanted to give people a place to go after work, somewhere they could chill and unwind with friends.” -Edric Ramos, Co-owner of Kachi Cafe and Collectibles
The absence of a “Third Space” during the quarantine put a damper on most people’s moods. Kachi aimed to fix that, becoming a much-needed space to unwind and be with friends apart from your home and workplace. The cafe sees people coming in to play cards and board games, as well as those who bring some video games around. The space isn’t picky when it comes to what you want to play, so long as there are people there to enjoy playing it with you. Whether its games, good food, or just a peaceful place to stay, Kachi provides, and doesn’t disappoint.
Feast for All
“Not Duck Rice! Kwak Kwak Rice. That’s the sound the duck makes.” -Carrick Ngui, Co-Owner and Kwak Kwak Rice creator
The excellent cuisine is just one of the reasons to give this place a try. Kachi has a wide selection of meals and beverages, with their most famous one being their Duck Fried Rice (usually referred to as Kwak Kwak Rice by the regulars). Each of the dishes has generous servings and is freshly cooked in their kitchen. We tried the Kwak Kwak Rice, Carbonara Pasta, Nachos, and an assortment of fruity drinks. Apart from this, the cafe also offers a selection of artisanal coffees. All guaranteed to help you get through your work day or stay awake during long gaming sessions. You won’t have to leave your spot for long since they’ll be bringing the order right to your table in a matter of minutes!
So You Want to Play a Game?
Kachi is no slouch when it comes to games either. They’ve got a game for everybody, whether you’re into card games or board games. They stock Flesh and Blood, Grand Archive, Digimon, Dragonball, and Pokemon, so you’re bound to find a game that suits your fancy. For the tabletop crowd, they’ve got a wide array of beginner-intermediate board games. The perfect kind to get your new friends down the board game rabbit hole! Once you’ve found the game for you, Kachi offers a variety of game nights and tournaments regularly. You can check out their posts and updates on when to play on their Facebook page here. For everyone else, you can come chill and do what’s fun! They recently held a painting workshop for minis, perfect for miniatures games. The VRSUS Team also brought a couple laptops to play fighting games on.
For the People, by the People
“I really wanted to be more involved, this is my first card game so I really got into it when we started learning and building the community” -Edric Ramos, Co-Owner of Kachi Cafe and Collectibles
Having a haven like this for foodies and gamers is possible only because the owners are foodies and gamers themselves! They know exactly what to give to players and cafegoers because they enjoy doing the same things, and what have a high standard for quality. Edric is heavily involved in competitive card games, and so is his brother, Einan. Carrick, Clarence, and Richmond, all have experience in culinary arts and design, giving the food and ambiance all the right tweaks for perfection. They all frequent the cafe as well, and are open to playing games and chatting with everybody. Anybody who comes into Kachi is sure to feel welcomed by the warm and engaging community!
Team VRSUS had a blast at Kachi, and we look forward to finding other great spots to play and hangout. We’ll be stopping by again for some Kwak Kwak Rice, hope to see you guys there!
It’s always nice to find spaces like this. A nice spot to play, work, or watch a couple movies on your devices. Though I’d steer clear from those crappy sequels though, they’re pretty pointless and ruin the whole experience.
