The first Season of Kaiju No. 8 is over, and while we can’t wait to see Kafka again (hopefully) next season, we can’t deny that he brute-forced his way to his wins most of the time. There might be a time when just punching things well won’t cut it, especially against the looming threat of Kaiju No. 9, but where does he go from here?
Improving As A Defense Force Officer
What sets Kafka apart from the Kaiju is that maintaining his humanity and identity (unless he goes on a rampage) is his greatest asset. As a human, Kafka can continuously learn and train in different knowledge and techniques that he could apply in his kaiju form. In addition to this, he can learn how to coordinate with the Defense Force and develop better tactics and strategies against future Kaiju threats.
Improving As A Kaiju
While his Kaiju No. 8 form is very powerful – we get the feeling that what we’ve seen so far is just the base of its potential. Sure it’s fast and powerful, but it’s hiding other powers that set it apart from the other identified Kaiju. Another thing that Kafka can work on besides unlocking its potential powers is just optimizing how he operates when in Kaiju form – making it last longer without taking a toll on him and being able to reign back into his control should it ever go on a rampage again.
Geared Kaiju No. 8
This and the last one are more theories, but the idea of the Defense Force being able to develop a unique weapon specifically for Kaiju No. 8 is too hard to resist. While nothing in the show so far hints at this possibility, being able to turn Kaiju into numbered armor and weapons has already set a premise. One day, a more symbiotic Kaiju will become a numbered weapon and resonate well when used in Kafka’s Kaiju form – that would be cool.
Released Force – Fortitude Level
Two power metrics have been used in the series – the Released Force to measure the officers’ power at the Defense Force and the Fortitude Level to measure a kaiju’s power. Kafka, being both, might find a way to convert his current fortitude level of 9.8 (currently the highest of any Kaiju in the series) to Released Force in human form (which he is at 1%, the lowest in the series). This would make him more competent even in his human form and save him from some risks and problems associated with transforming into a Kaiju.
The season finale of Kaiju No. 8 is now streaming on Netflix.
