It centers around a family of four headed by the unstable patriarch, Francis (Sid Lucero). Along with his wife, Iris (Beauty Gonzales), and their sons, Josh (Marco Masa) and Lucas (Aiden Tyler Patdu), they escape to Francis’s isolated farmhouse in the countryside to find safety and try to regain a sense of normalcy amid a destructive zombie epidemic.

The recently unveiled trailer for “Outside,” the first zombie feature from Netflix Philippines, ends with the chilling line: “You can’t keep out what’s already inside.” Directed by the renowned TV commercial and content filmmaker Carlo Ledesma, the film is set to provide an intense and immersive psychological horror experience upon its premiere on October 17.

You can watch the trailer HERE.

In the opening shot of the trailer, a dilapidated car bearing a bloody handprint on the window serves as a powerful symbol of the family’s harrowing experiences. The trailer then shifts to scenes depicting the family’s efforts to adjust to their new environment, interwoven with glimpses of Francis’s escalating paranoia. The trailer effectively builds tension by alluding to the psychological and emotional challenges for the family.

Carlo made a significant impact in the horror genre with his found-footage film debut “The Tunnel” in 2011, followed by “Sunod” in 2019, and the horror-comedy short “The Kapre.” His latest project, “Outside,” is described as his most personal work to date, drawing inspiration from his upbringing in Negros and his sense of isolation during the pandemic, which sparked the idea for the film.

During the Netflix APAC Southeast Asia Showcase in Indonesia in June, director Carlo highlighted that “Outside” goes beyond being a zombie film. He described it as a “terrifying psychological thriller” that delves into the challenges faced by a family amidst a zombie pandemic. According to him, the movie is fundamentally about the survival of a family.
