Which Is The Better Gaming Experience? – Team Plugged
In 2002, the Philippines was hit by a different kind of storm in the form of MMORPGs (Massively multiplayer online role-playing games), with Ragnarok Online, and became the country’s first premier online game. Ragnarok Online (RO) paved the way for similar games like World of Warcraft, Khan, and RF Online to enter the minds and lives of Filipino gamers. The sudden popularity of the RO brought about the rise of computer rental shops all across the country where young gamers would flock and line up to play, thus permanently embedding video games as part of Pinoy pop culture. Fast forward to 2024, when mobile devices are now able to support a plethora of online games with popular titles such as Mobile Legends, Genshin Impact, and League of Legends, this new generation of Pinoy gamers is living proof of our love for video games.
Online Games have provided gamers with entertainment at arm’s reach, virtually anywhere you have access to the internet in the palm of your hand. But while online gaming offers instant heart-pumping action, many gamers have chosen old-fashioned analog gaming over its more high-tech counterpart.
Which Is The Better Gaming Experience? – Team Unplugged
In 1974 Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson created a game that will be forever tied to the fantasy genre entitled Dungeon and Dragons (DnD), wherein players “role-play” their created characters as they dive into a world created by a Dungeon Master (DM) with nothing more than a pen, pieces of paper and dice. Though once considered a niche hobby with its fair share of controversies and trials, DnD started the fire that would sooner serve as inspiration for tabletop games such as Warhammer Fantasy, a miniatures game in 1984, Magic: The Gathering Trading Card Game in 1993 as well as thousands of board games ranging from casual party games to the more complex sub-class called euro-games, all of which recently have experienced a massive resurgence of enthusiasts preferring a more personal approach to gaming interactions.
Both gaming genres offer a different experience while sharing many aspects intrinsic to gaming. Many friendships and rivalries were formed behind screens and on the tabletop, sitting with your opponent next to or across from you, all in the name of good fun and competition. Whether you go digital or analog, gaming provides us with entertainment, pleasure, and even escapism from the hustle and bustle of the world.
