Tanjiro’s Biggest Strength May Not Be The Hinukami Kagura – Demon Slayer Episode 3 Season 4

    Published on:

At first glance, Demon Slayer Episode 3 Season 4 seems to be a quiet affair —it’s one of those episodes that sets up future ones and gives everyone a little bit of peace.

Demon Slayer Episode 3 – Subplots

Before delving into the episode’s main point, let’s talk about the outlying stories first. We see Upper Demon Four (or at least its eye) on the move as it scouts the town patrolled by the Demon Slayer Corps, probably looking for information on Nezuko’s whereabouts. The notable lack of demons hints that something huge is coming – a sentiment that the Wind and Serpent Hashira share as they cross swords to shake off the uneasiness.

This is a confession scene… of wanting to cross swords with each other.

Uzui’s grueling physical challenges may seem insurmountable, but Tanjiro’s resilience is a beacon of inspiration. Despite the odds, he not only overcomes but also finds joy in the process. His unwavering spirit is something that all the other trainees quickly noticed.

Despite the seemingly hellish physical ordeals that Uzui puts them through, Tanjiro realizes that the Hashira are all kind-hearted deep down—they just have roundabout ways to express it. Uzui never leaves anyone behind, and a flashback with Giyu shows he’s willing to compromise and join the training for everyone’s good.

Demon Slayer Episode 3 – Night Combat Training

The episode highlights Uzui’s combat training at night, where he trains everyone to get accustomed to fighting in the dark. As the trainees are getting taken down one by one, Tanjiro steps up in an effort to protect them and fights Uzui. Seeing Tanjiro give it his all to hold Uzui off and protect them inspires the rest of the trainees to take up arms and fight together with him. At the end of the training, while they knew that they wouldn’t be able to match up against Upper Demons, everyone still vowed to give it their best, even if it was to support Tanjiro and the Hashira a little more bit more effectively.

As shown in the episode, leading by example and inspiring others is one of Tanjiro’s biggest strengths. Giving it his all when he fights effectively conveys his will to protect everyone more than any words would, which in turn gives them the courage to stand up to the enemy regardless of their strength. Individual ability matters a lot in Demon Slayer, but most of its important fights are won through people overcoming their fears and working together despite the odds.

It remains to be seen how this will play out in the eventual showdown between the Upper Demons and Muzan. Still, from how the episodes develop, the Demon Slayer Corps won’t just be canon fodder and might even play a more significant role.

The episode ends with Tanjiro completing Uzui’s training and moving on to Muichiro Tokito, the Mist Hashira’s, swordsmanship training.

Demon Slayer Episode 3 Season 4 is currently streaming on Netflix.
