The Best Local Players Of Pro Quest: London Week 2

    Published on:

Kyle treats us all to a recap of the only Pro Quest: London tournament locally that will use the Draft format! Who took the win in this uncharted Rosetta territory? Let’s find out!

Another week, another bout for glory! As we move into week 3 of Pro Quest: London, let’s take a quick look back at what went on last weekend during the second week of the series. Things were a little more quiet compared to week 1, but that doesn’t mean the battles were any less intense. Let’s see who won, who got a shot at Pro Tour: London, and what went down!

    Block 101 Hobbies Store

Surprisingly enough, only one shop had a Pr oQuest: London qualifier tournament last weekend, so all the action was focused there! Block 101’s Pro Quest: London tournament was a little bit different than the ones that took place last week in that it was a Draft format event! Unlike Classic Constructed, players don’t bring their own carefully and meticulously built deck. Instead, they are each given three booster packs and are arranged in draft pods of 8 people (usually). The players are to then open the packs one by one, choose a card from there, and pass the pack to the player on their left or right. They repeat this process until all the packs are finished, and they now build an exactly 30-card deck from their drafted pool. Now that everyone is caught up to speed on what drafting is, here’s what happened during Block 101’s draft!

With 18 players fighting for a spot in the Pro Tour, the tournament started with two draft pods: one 8-man pod and another 10-man. After three rounds and two players dropping out, the players had to do another draft, this time evenly split into two 8-man pods. Another three rounds, and it’s off to Top 8 with yet another draft. In the end, Justin Cu takes the whole event, placing another ProQuest win under his belt for the season. Due to him having a previous invite to Pro Tour: London from his last win, the invitation was given to runner-up Andre Ryan See! Justin made his way to the top using Oscilio in the first draft and Aurora in the second and Top 8 drafts. The most popular hero drafted in this event was Florian! Looks like everyone wanted to use the harbinger of rot. With so many Florians, Justin was left essentially uncontested in the draft for necessary Oscilio and Aurora pieces.

Even though only one Pro Quest: London tournament went down last weekend, it was no less a spectacle than the first week. Draft is a hard format and rewards the players who have a keen eye for draft patterns and set knowledge. Don’t worry, however, because if draft isn’t your speed, we have more ProQuests happening this weekend and are Classic Constructed! So, prepare your decks and fight your way to the top of the heap for a shot at Pro Tour: London!
