The Relationship Of Muzan And Tamayo: Everything You Need To Know

This article is written by guest contributor Kyle Lantion. Kyle is an avid comic fan and loves all things comic-related. So much so that his favorite tabletop hobby is painting minis for Marvel Crisis Protocol and other miniatures. When he’s not painting, he’s probably playing in or Judging Flesh and Blood TCG Tournaments all around the city.

Many fans eagerly anticipate the finale, but we know some of you might be confused or curious about some details – like the relationship between Muzan and Tamayo. What is the Infinity Castle (don’t worry! We have that covered!), or what exactly is Sun breathing? VRSUS has all of you covered, so don’t worry! In this article, we talk about Tamayo, her past with Muzan, and what she does in the story.

Muzan and Tamayo – How They Met

Tamayo was one of the demons that Muzan turned 500 years before the current timeline. During that period, she was a normal housewife who was diagnosed with a fatal illness. Tamayo fell into a depressed state and became desperate for a cure. She was then approached by Muzan. He lied to her and led her to believe that he had the power to extend her life and remove her disease. Desperate for a cure, she allowed Muzan to turn her into a demon. Of course, this was not the healing she was promised, and she lost her humanity and memories momentarily and went into a frenzy.

In her enraged state, she inadvertently killed her husband, her children, and some villagers from her village. After coming to her senses, she was struck with grief and blamed Muzan for the tragedy that befell her. Though she hated and despised him, she knew he was much too powerful to take down after a failed attempt at killing him. She gave up any hope of killing him and remained as a docile servant to Muzan, allowing his influence to overcome her spirit.

Muzan And Tamayo – Escaping The Demon King

It wasn’t until Muzan and Tamayo ran into Yoroiichi Tsugikuni, a young demon slayer during the Sengoku Period and the founder of Sun Breathing, that Tamayo would finally break Muzan’s influence on her and regain hope in defeating him. Yoroiichi overpowered Muzan and dominated their fight, mortally wounding Muzan in the process and causing him to flee. It was at that moment that Tamayo regained her sense of will and a newfound determination to fight Muzan and take him down for good.

    Tamayo’s Life As A Demon

Over the years, Tamayo would research everything about the science behind demonic transformation and the development of a cure. Unlike other demons turned by Muzan, she learned to live off animal carcasses and human blood, staving off the desire for human flesh. She would eventually come across a sick boy with no family nor home and eventually convert him into a demon to save his life, with his consent, of course. This young boy was named Yushiro and went on to serve as her personal assistant. Although she would offer the choice to be converted to other dying patients she would meet, It’s shown that Yushiro was the only successful convert who survived.

Fast forward to the present, Tamayo’s role in the story is simple yet crucial. While she and Nezuko were both turned by Muzan, they stood defiant of the Demon Progenitor. Her research on Demonic transformation is the answer Tanjiro has been looking for to cure his sister and potentially be the Demon Slayer Corps’ secret weapon against Muzan in the Final battle.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is currently streaming on Netflix.

Muzan is also on the hunt for Nezuko, Tanjiro’s sister. Find out his reasons in the article below!
