YGG Play Summit: The Web3 Gaming Mecca!

    Published on:

Yield Guild Games (YGG) Play Summit is the largest Web3 event of the year, and we got to experience the action firsthand here at SMX in SM Aura! YGG gathers Web3 gamers for an epic week of talks and presentations from industry leaders, stunning gaming innovation demos from various developers, and the largest prizepool for Web3 gaming.

Industry leaders like CCP Games founder and EVE Online creator Hilmar Veigar Pétursson spoke about web3 gaming being driven by the Philippines, with people creating more in the digital space thanks to its accessibility and ease of use. YGG co-founders Gabby Dizon and Beryl Li also gave talks alongside Pixels CEO Luke Barwikowski, Base creator Jesse Pollak, and Sky Mavis co-founder Jeffrey “Jihoz” Zirlin. These industry leaders all came together to pass on their insights to the crowd, majority of which were youthful individuals brimming with potential.

Innovation in gaming takes bravery, and there is nothing scarier than altering an age-old classic like chess. Anichess by Animoca Brands is just one of the many innovative games we saw at YGG Play Summit, and it jumped out to us immediately. Its a fresh take on chess with spells and mana, giving your pieces the ability to move like a queen, jump over other pieces, or swap places instantaneously. Chess Grand Master Magnus Carlsen himself partners with the game, and we can definitely see why. YGG Play Summit was full of innovation, and we were glad to be a part of it.

Each of these new games was created with a competitive scene in mind. Competition drives the web3 gaming community like no other, and YGG Play Summit held multiple tournaments with a whopping $130,000 prize pool for Parallel TCG, Arena of Faith, Induse, and Anichess! Its refreshing to see games receiving competitive attention that is accessible to a wider pool of players.

If you missed out on YGG Play Summit 2024, make sure to keep an eye out for their return in 2025!
