We Finally Get to See the Nintendo Switch 2!

    Published on:

I know we’ve written a lot about the speculations and if it’s worth it, but we finally get an official look at the Nintendo Switch 2! Here’s what’s up!

    Is it Real?

A few hours ago, Nintendo released the first official console reveal trailer for the Nintendo Switch 2 and we’re here to let you know everything in said trailer. First and foremost, this is real! It’s not a leak like the other videos and it was posted to the official IGN and the Nintendo of America YouTube Channels. Nintendo themselves released the video so you can rest assured knowing this is legitimate.

    So.. what’s new?

Right off the bat, it’s shown that the Nintendo Switch 2 is going to be much larger than the original Switch and Switch OLED. The Joycons are also a lot larger now. This is wonderful news for people with larger hands or people who found holding the Switch to be uncomfortable. Unfortunately, that probably means it’s a lot heavier than the original Switch too.

The Joycons themselves have been overhauled as well. The connection to the main panel is a lot more streamlined and doesn’t appear to use the same rail system from the previous Switch. Now, bigger Joycons could mean bigger buttons but we unfortunately still see a lack of an actual D-pad. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s unfortunate we didn’t get that this time around. Maybe Nintendo will release an official one for separate purchase.

We’re not sure of the official specs yet but it looks like they’re keeping the screen-to-bezel ratio the same as the OLED. Hopefully, they keep it an OLED panel as well instead of releasing an IPS panel as the base. One feature they’re adding is another USB-C port on top of the unit. That could mean there are more accessories you can use while docked being released.

Another huge improvement is the kickstand. The OLED did a great job at improving the kickstand but the Switch 2 takes that concept and makes it way more compact in design. It’s also a lot more flexible for gaming at any angle. In addition to the new handheld, they’re also changing the dock. It looks like it’s a lot thinner and not as bulky as the previous one.

    Backwards Compatibility

This is what everyone was waiting for the most. They did in fact confirm that Switch 2 cartridges will be the same size as the original Switch games. This means you can play your old Switch games on the Nintendo Switch 2 but you can’t play Switch 2 games on the original Switch. It’s nice to see that they’re going the Game Cube Nintendo Wii route once more but that just means there really is no other reason to get a Switch OLED or Switch anymore.

You’ll want to tune in on April 2, 2025 for the first Nintendo Direct for more info! We’ll of course have a summary and breakdown on the website so stay tuned for that. Get your orders in because the Switch 2 is looking to be the hottest console being released this year!

Want to know about the speculations or if you should still get a Switch OLED? We got you covered.
